While much of the USA was having freezing weather, snow and ice we were visiting South Padre Island. The Island is at the southern tip of the state of Texas.

My thermometer is reading 28 here in Round Rock. It was quite chilly when we were on Padre, 40’s, raining and windy.

I used to go there on field trips, that takes me back. I love red Hibiscus flowers, they take me back to summer, and give me hope it won’t be too long here.

Having lived in Missouri for so many decades it is fun seeing flowers like hibiscus and roses in bloom in December.

We were in South Padre last year at the end of January and it was so delightful. It’s been a bit chilly all over Texas the last few days, and supposed to be in the teens in the HIll Country on Wednesday.

On the day we were at the bird center, we started with light jackets, gloves and ear muffs. By mid afternoon, all that was shed and very pleasant.
