A Friday late afternoon stroll was to the nearby area where I hoped I had seen a blue heron. The stroll yielded some fun surprises. First was the honeysuckle vine that is covering a small area of fence at the corner. Honeysuckle’s sweet aroma never fails to bring to mind pleasant memories you can read about here. This discovery seemed the universe telling me, You are where you belong at this time of life.My next surprise was the sight of someone fishing in the nearby runoff pond, the area where the possible heron lived/visited. As I walked closer to get a better look at the fisherman, my eye was caught by the racing ants along the curb. They were moving to fast to get a clear picture. Guess I need to work on my photo skills! Along side the curb in the grassy area these diminutive, white flowers were growing. Just sitting there in the evening sun no more than a couple of inches above the earth! Naturally, I had to snap a photo of these “weeds” if there is such a thing in creation. As I raised up from the ants and flowers I was able to see the sought after waterfowl. There tucked in the cattails stood the blue heron. If you cannot quite see it, here is the closest capture I could get. Again, gotta work on my camera skills or buy a digital camera that will take a telephoto lense.Looking to the other side. Think it was posing a little. Even managed to get a redwing blackbird in the shot, too. Thanks for coming along on my walk. Your company is always appreciated and conversations welcomed. For more closeups on Mondays visit I Heart Macro hosted by Laura Hegfield and Macro Monday 2 hosted by Gemma Wiseman. I am, also, submitting to Wild Bird Wednesday hosted by the ever Cheers-filled Stewart in Australia. And one last look at those sweet smelling honeysuckle blossoms.

I love the swirling stamens of the honeysuckle, I’ve noticed hummingbirds like to visit them. It’s so nice you can walk to a lovely pond, with even a gorgeous Blue Heron! The tiny flowers that are so cute are some I loved when I was a child, they are called Frogfruit or Phyla nodiflora. I even planted a lawn of them in San Diego, but the downside was that the flowers attracted bees so kind of dangerous for a lawn with barefooted children.

I could see the flowers as a lawn in warmer climates. I like the common names for flowers and wonder what gardener came up with the names.

I love the fragrance of honeysuckle too, it evokes memories of some childhood years spent in Norfolk, VA where they grew in abundance and perfumed the springtime air on my walk to school.
Those ants were very busy! I always think they should wear little hard hats and orange safety vests so we can more easily avoid stepping on them. 🙂
You may currently lack a good telephoto lens, but you certainly do have a keen eye to spot that heron in the cattails from such a distance!

You can see the ants are “speeding”. Love the picture even if its not clear! 🙂 Give them suger to eat and they stop running for a while..or if you find a nest and they need to move their larvae they move but in the same area so its easier. I had a fun time last summer when a lifted a rock an d found ants http://tradgardssurr.wordpress.com/2013/06/17/myror-pa-gott-och-ont/

I had some straw in a bag on my patio. Was planning to use it as brown stuff in the worm farm composter on the patio. Ants took possession of it for their nursery. Thanks for the visit and comments.

Ants are tricky subjects as they tend to move very fast… I have lots of blurry images of ants 😉

These seemed especially speedy. Maybe the concrete curb was burning their little feet! Thanks for the comment.
